Favorable Outlook For Meat Producers Seen by Economist
Economist Oscar A. Day told the Cedar Rapids Farmers club that strong demand for livestock and meats at satisfactory wartime prices should continue into 1945 with meat production around 22.7 billion pounds and per capita consumption near 127 pounds, then potentially rising to 170 if prices permit. He warned of possible shortages during 1945 and cited relief needs, fats and oils gaps, and postwar demobilization. He noted a hazy long-term outlook and that vegetable fats threaten swine, while an expanding economy and higher living standards bolster the livestock industry.

Prospects Are Good For Billion Bushel Wheat Crop in 45
Washington (UP) The agriculture department said on Wednesday that 1945 would likely produce a billion bushel wheat harvest. Winter wheat sowing under favorable fall conditions now stands at 762,000,000 bushels, with spring wheat boosting the total toward a second straight billion. A record year would leave a carryover well over 500,000,000 bushels, nearly wartime reserves.
