Cyrus Metcalf Dies Suddenly at 66
Cyrus Metcalf 66 of 617 First Avenue E. and proprietor of Metcalf Plumbing died of a heart attack about 9 55 a.m. in the Iowa Electric Light and Power office. He had directed a large Eastern Iowa plumbing business for 26 years and was active as a gospel singer and preacher in Cedar Rapids and nearby communities. He died en route to St Luke's hospital after the office incident. He had recently joined a gospel service in Tipton and sang with notable evangelists. He was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and contributed to Sunshine Mission and Anamosa reformatory chapel work. Born Aug 12, 1872 in Dublin Ireland, he moved to Cedar Rapids as a child and built a life balancing business leadership with evangelistic efforts.
