Ambrose C. Hester, 52, a former inmate of the state hospital for the insane at Independence, killed his wife Theresa Hester, 51, at their home and then shot himself, dying later at noon. He had been at large nearly two months despite an insanity warrant issued November 18. Three of their eight children were home. daughter Lucille, 16, witnessed the confrontation and helped at the scene as the gun was fired.
District Judge A O Wakefield filed charges with the Iowa Supreme Court naming Max E Duckworth as subject to disbarment. An order sets January 27 for a preliminary hearing in Woodbury County District Court where Duckworth must appear to answer the accusations drafted by lawyers for the Woodbury County Bar association.
Dr. F. E. Townsend authorized immediate creation of a third party in California. Sheridan Downey was named to direct the party formation for the Old Age Revolving Pensions group. Downey, a former lieutenant governor candidate, will lead the Townsend party per the announcement.

Des Moines, Iowa Attorney General E L OConnor rejected a request by the Iowa liquor control commission to elevate its six investigators to state agents under the bureau of investigation. He found no legal provision for such a change and said the law requires the AG office to pay state agents. The commission sought to curb inter county rum running by giving investigators arrest and warrant powers, a status OConnor did not grant.

District Judge Rodman of Cherokee ruled the Iowa mortgage moratorium law constitutional in Boland v Chicago Joint Stock Land Bank. The case involved a foreclosure on Boland and the bank argued the law was invalid, but the judge cited prior Iowa Supreme Court holdings and the state's police power to protect citizens and property.
Iowa records show 445 individuals and establishments paid the $25 RLD tax to sell alcohol over the counter. Davenport leads with 985 RLDs in force, Des Moines has 54, Sioux City 64, and Cedar Rapids only six, while state store sales vary by city and often drop as river cities shift trade to Illinois.
ST LOUIS INL three persons were killed Thursday when a plane in which they rode exploded in midair and crashed in a wooded area in St Louis county. The dead were identified as Charles Schott the pilot Earl Beauvais St Louis owner of the plane and his wife.
