Electric car fees to rise under DOT plan
The Iowa Department of Transportation will seek a change to electric vehicle registration from a flat 25 dollar annual fee to a weight and value based formula used for other vehicles. About 41 all electric cars exist in Iowa with 8 in Linn County and 4 in Johnson County. A Nissan Leaf could see a 366 dollar registration under the proposal. The plan has legislative support though some dealer opposition persists.
