Iowa Eyes 40 Percent Electronic Tax Filers
Des Moines officials forecast that over 40 percent of Iowa residents will file state income tax returns electronically this year with a goal of 80 percent by 2007. Director Gerald Bair announced retirement plans and described budget cuts that may slow processing times and reduce temporary staff from 100 to 50. He noted refunds for electronic filers should arrive in about two weeks versus twelve weeks for paper returns.
