Inspector Mike Richardson found Linn County Jail overcrowding in three cells and warm conditions. Air flow and lighting issues were noted due to restricted vents from prisoner tampering. letter sent to the Linn County Board of Supervisors. Sheriff Don Zeller called overcrowding a short term issue.
Korey Sawma, 17, of 202 W Willman St, Hiawatha, is charged as an adult with intimidation with a weapon for allegedly aiding another to discharge a shotgun into Randy Freno's home at 598 Cobban Ct SE. Police recovered the weapon but could not prove Sawma fired it. prosecutors say initial findings changed after further investigation.
Iowa City school district will hire an assistant superintendent by the next school year to manage rapid growth and federal requirements including No Child Left Behind. The appointee will work with principals on educational programs and with the superintendent on districtwide activities and will earn at least peng annually.

The Jones County Board of Supervisors replaced a 2005 moratorium on rural billboards with a countywide sign ordinance. Mediaquest Outdoors dropped its lawsuit after the May 31 2005 enactment, which sets 1000 foot billboard spacing and limits structures to one sign per location. The ordinance will join a revised Jones County zoning ordinance to preserve county scenery while allowing signage for economic development.
Jones County on February 15 2005 imposed a moratorium on rural billboard construction to draft a comprehensive sign ordinance. Mediaquest Outdoor of Cedar Rapids sued March 22 2005 seeking to overturn the moratorium and recover damages from delays affecting lease preparations along Highway 151 near Anamosa and Cascade.
