Marion teen pleads to second degree murder in Cedar Rapids shooting

Baynon Berry known as BJ, 17, pleaded last week to second degree murder for his role in the Feb 18 2023 death of 16 year old Michael Alexander McCune. He admitted going to Tan Tara apartments Cedar Rapids with Dante Irvin and encouraging the shooting. Prosecutors seek a 70 percent minimum of 50 year sentence. Berry faces up to 50 years. Sentencing set for April 28.

Iowas 80 Truckstop unit fined for spill plan lapse

The Iowa 80 Truckstop group agreed to about 390000 dollars in EPA fines after inspections showed no required spill response plans training or drills at the Iowa 80 site near Walcott and a Missouri location. The settlements cover 204000 and 187000 dollar fines with revised plans and fixed equipment.
