Alcoa to Cut 13500 Jobs and Tighten Production

Alcoa Inc plans to trim 13,500 jobs equal to 13 percent of its workforce and cut 1,700 contractor roles as part of a broad cost reduction. The move includes selling four units, a salary and hiring freeze, and aims to save about $450 million annually. Production will be slashed with smelting down 135,000 metric tons per year and aluminum output reduced by 18 percent.
