Reflecting Absence wins World Trade Center memorial design
The design by Michael Arad features two reflecting pools and a stone field chosen by a 13 member jury after an eight month competition that drew over 5,000 entries. Victims families criticized the decision saying the concept fails to convey the horror of the Sept. 11 attacks. The memorial will honor all 2,977 victims and the 1993 bombing victims at the site alongside the Freedom Tower.
