Two satellites give Al good look at Jupiter
Gazette staff writer Iowa City reports the Galileo spacecraft lingered beyond its expected end date, allowing UI scientists to study Jupiter’s magnetic field. With Cassini en route to Saturn, data from both missions will test how solar winds and volcanic activity shape the planet’s magnetosphere and offer insights for Earth’s own space environment.

Santa Hart keeps beard for Cedar Rapids holiday duties
Cedar Rapids supervisor Tom Hart of Linn County Public Health volunteered with his wife Barb to portray Mr and Mrs Claus at the Festival of Trees. Hart, 45, grew a gray beard during camping last summer and keeps it as part of his Santa persona. He recalls greeting a smiling elderly man in a wheelchair and notes kids test the beard for curiosity. Hart may keep the beard next summer if comfortable, citing its practicality in cold weather.
