Lee D. Stafford 30 Gainsboro Tennessee was charged with rape, police said, in connection with an assault on a Marion woman after leaving a tavern at Twelfth avenue and Third street SE. Sam W. Becker of Becker's Peoples Furniture was installed Thursday as president of the Cedar Rapids Executives Association Inc. Other officers installed include Ron Rasmussen as first vice president Don Conker as second vice president Peter R. Aldershot as secretary and Wilmer Ross as treasurer. New board members are Richard Hull Henry Ek Dan Rogers and Jerry Duenow.

The baby’s mother Megera on loan from Busch Gardens wasn’t caring for him properly. The father Hatari a permanent resident of the Cincinnati zoo has sired four other offspring with another mate. With the total now at nine the Cincinnati zoo has held the world record for lowland gorilla births since 1974.
