Captain from Castile book review explodes with drama

Naomi Docebel praises Samuel Shellabarger's Captain from Castile as a vivid, romance filled epic based on memoirs and records. It traces Pedro de Vargas’s love for Dona Luisa and Catana, his escape from the Inquisition, and his rise with Cortes in the Mexico of the Sixteenth century. The narrative blends horror and romance in a sweeping historical adventure.
