Backbone develops in grain markets with light trade
Chicago AP reports grain prices steady to firm on Saturday as dust storms in Kansas and Texas boost demand. Talk of inflation from a large government borrowing program supported higher prices for commodities while domestic cash markets showed strength. Wheat closed near the day’s high, corn and oats mostly firmer, and provisions mixed. Trade was light but offerings scarce in the wheat pit, lifting prices briefly. Dust storms underscored moisture shortages in the Southwest, with outlook weak and primary wheat receipts down from last year. Corn and oats gains stemmed from tight supplies and limited arrivals. Provisions moved with hog market trends.
