Patience and public hearings mark first Cedar Rapids council 2002
The first Cedar Rapids City Council meeting of 2002 lasted 2 hours with three public hearings and two public comment periods. New Mayor Paul Pate and Parks Commissioner Wade Wagner heard opposition to a sidewalk project and a Home Depot plan, while regulars dominated the remarks as they set the tone for ongoing city business. Lumir Dostal, Linn County Board chair for 2002, noted possible term decisions and heard about regional government consolidation from the Chamber of Commerce. A reception for county and city officials is planned February 21 to foster cross-town coordination.
