Marion garbage amnesty popular with some issues noted
Marion officials reported the first garbage amnesty largely successful with about 40 tons more waste collected than last year and a 36 percent rise in overall pickups. The program allowed one extra container without a $1.25 tag from Dec 27 to 31, though some residents left large items curbside and many households used untagged bags.

New Public Safety and Finance Commissioners Take Roles

Cedar Rapids construction project eyed for next year
The Cedar Rapids project aims to begin within about a year with very preliminary designs. Elgin estimates six to nine months to finish and keeping one traffic lane open could add four to eight weeks and raise costs.
