Farmers storm courthouse to halt Colorado auction

More than 200 chanting farmers blocked Main Street with bannered tractors and stormed the courthouse steps in Springfield Colorado to stop a 320 acre Wright farm sale. The Federal Land Bank of Wichita bought the property for about 91000 after the disturbance. A number of farmers were hurt and three were arrested as tear gas dispersed the crowd.

Federal workers to join Social Security panel plan

A draft report from the Social Security advisory commission urges bringing all future federal employees and current workers with under five years of service into Social Security. It also recommends removing Social Security from the federal budget, aiming to shield tax and benefit decisions from political shifts. If Republican and Democratic members reach agreement by January 15, inclusion of federal employees could be the main accord.
