Kalona Father Of 7 Is Given Year Probation

Kalona man Harry Arthur Showman 35 held on a bench parole violation was released on a one year probation by U S District Judge Robert Van Pelt. He had been jailed for six thousand dollar bond and previously pled guilty in 1957 to interstate transportation of forged securities.

Hope Signs To Curb Toll On Route 30

Iowa plans 100 red warning billboards on Route 30 to curb deaths. High Patrol Chief Herrick says the red sign shows 35 yearly fatalities and urges slow driving. The Outdoor Advertising Assn will fund $4,000 for the sign program across the state border to border through February.

Police Court Fines Totals Set in Iowa City Area

Elwyn Erickson of Cedar Rapids was fined 46 dollars plus costs by Iowa City Police Judge Ansel Chapman for intoxication on a public highway 14 miles north of Iowa City. Amos W. Miller, 19, of Kalona also received a 46 dollar fine and costs for striking an unattended vehicle near North Liberty.

Services Friday for Belle Plaine Woman

Addie Rohn Theeman 97 longtime Belle Plaine resident and former OES matron died Tuesday. Born in Plymouth Michigan she lived in Belle Plaine since 1883 and worked as a dressmaker at S L Van Scoy Dry Goods. Services Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Peffers funeral home.
