Insurer denies boy's transplant for ALD treatment
Cedar Rapids family fights insurer after denial of coverage for an 8-year-old boy Daniel Canfield's bone marrow transplant to treat adrenoleukodystrophy. Doctors call the procedure standard of care, not experimental, with costs estimated between 200000 and 500000 as Daniel faces rapid decline and potential death within years. The family pursued treatment in Minneapolis while appealing the denial and continuing public posts about their fight.
