ISU Professor Develops Corn Based Fish Feed
Iowa State University assistant professor Kurt Rosentrater is developing a corn and soybean based fish food aimed at lowering costs for aquaculture. He notes carnivorous breeds like yellow perch and rainbow trout face adaptation hurdles, but omnivorous fish such as catfish and tilapia show promise as the feed reduces fish oil usage. He envisions a new Iowa feed industry spurring local fish farming and questions whether feed production or fish demand should come first.
