Rocky Mount sits about halfway between New York and Florida with a population near 58,000. The city has earned All-America City honors twice and is described as the sweet potato capital of the world. The railroad divides Main Street, placing parts of the city in two counties. The area is noted as the original home of Hardee's restaurants.
Englewood Elementary earned a national honor for its character education program teaching trustworthiness caring responsibility courage citizenship respect perseverance fairness and self discipline. In September and October Floyd caused flooding in Rocky Mount and eastern North Carolina. Students and parents collected food and supplies for flood victims. Character Eddie is the school mascot.
