Unusual visitors mark Cedar Rapids Christmas bird count
The 1980 Cedar Rapids Christmas bird count tallied 63 varieties and 10 237 birds over 12 hours from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. A short billed marsh wren was the prime find, with two long eared owls and a saw whet owl among early sightings. Cedar Rapids group notes rare northern species due to mild winter and heavy acorn crop.
