Hawkeye Girl 17 Killed Four Hurt in Auto Crash
West Union report states a single car wreck seven miles west of town killed 17 year old Sandra Thornton Hawkeye and injured four others. Driver Douglas Abrenholz 19 Oelwein was hospitalized with a fractured leg. two other passengers were treated at Veterans hospital Iowa City. Detective notes indicate high speed out of Hawkeye before vehicle left the road, became airborne and landed on a concrete bridge requiring rope extractions. Investigation continues.

A Ruthven area teacher and his seven year old son were killed when a pickup left the road two miles east of Ruthven. The truck sideswiped two vehicles before crashing into a ditch Tuesday. Authorities identified the driver as Gary Seuhra.
