City Budget Approved with Minor Protests in Cedar Rapids
The Cedar Rapids city council approved a 1955 budget of 5,210,270 dollars, matching the prior year’s estimate and increasing outlay by 392,043 dollars. Only W. T. Shipe protested the hearing, calling it ridiculous since the tax levy could not be changed. Finance Commissioner Stewart Shank noted the session addressed changes to the adopted budget, not broad policy shifts, and councilmen overruled Shipe’s protest against higher city employee pay.
