Prairie classroom brings nature into Panorama Middle School
Panorama Middle School in Panora Iowa uses a restored 11 acre prairie behind the building for science lessons. Teacher Mark Dorhout leads eighth grade genetics climate studies and seventh grade bluebird boxes while sixth graders test water quality. Students log field observations, study biodiversity, and visit Lake Panorama for longer hikes as part of ongoing outdoor education. The program, praised by Iowa Division of the Izaak Walton League members, aims to foster environmental stewardship and real world science applications.
