Man rammed Scheels with handgun and admitted dry firing inside
Iowa City resident Joseph A. Moreno 23 drove a blue Ford Explorer into Scheels All Sports at Coral Ridge Mall early Saturday. He then entered the store armed with a 9mm handgun, smashed a glass case of ammunition and firearms, and admitted to dry firing several weapons. He left his Lafayette Street apartment after firing inside, generating bullet holes and shell casings. Moreno, reportedly intoxicated with a BAC of 0.15, faces multiple felonies including first degree burglary and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, plus counts of reckless use of a firearm and operating while intoxicated. Police transported him after a lengthy search. Scheels reopened the next day.
