Drivers fear over regulation and new medical exam rule
The FMCSA plans a national medical examiner registry with about 550 dollars in trainer and test costs per examiner. Across Iowa drivers face exams priced 70 to 100 dollars, while doctors warn the rule brings oversight and standard guidelines. Dr Joseph Kennedy of Cedar Rapids notes benefits of consistency and safety. Brenda Neville of the Iowa Motor Truck Association expects uniform practices and clearer standards for trucking health. Dr Patrick Hartley from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics mentions challenges for drivers to maintain diet and exercise.

Roadside medical exams proposed for bus and truck drivers
Interstate drivers would require periodic medical exams and certificates, typically valid 24 months, with shorter terms for ongoing health issues. Mayo Clinic physician Dr. Clayton Cowl says the plan highlights preventive care and healthier lifestyles, though drivers worry it adds regulatory burdens and could remove seasoned workers from the road.
