Under the five month old Juvenile Justice Act runaways and abused children are less likely to be sheltered by Linn County facilities. Police referrals have dropped while Foundation II Runaway Shelter gains, and the Shelter Care Facility now houses mostly court ordered youths.

Mild Winter Keeps Marion Snow Budget Favorable

Only three crew deployments this year and about six hours overtime vs last year, with roughly six tons of salt used to date. Murder charge in child's death in Iowa
Allamakee County attorney filed first degree murder against Robert Dean Hillesheim 27 of rural Waterville in the Nov 17 death of 2 year old Jennifer Buege of Waukon. The girl died of head injuries in a Rochester Minnesota hospital after injuries occurred while Hillesheim cared for her. He told authorities Jennifer fell down stairs. He is held in county jail on a 50 000 dollar bond.
