Sister Mary Mercy R S M 74 medical record librarian at Mercy hospital Anamosa died Wednesday after a short illness. Born Gertrude McDonnell 1889 Springville she served as Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids administrator 1939 1945. She entered the convent 1919 and was professed 1921 with past roles as nurse and medical record librarian in Kalispell Mont and Anamosa. Survived by three brothers and three sisters. Burial Mt Calvary cemetery. Funeral arrangements pending.
William J. Barnes 55 route three Cedar Rapids employee at the Pullman hotel died at University hospitals Iowa City after a brief illness. Born August 10 1908 in South Bend Indiana he had lived in the area since 1958. He is survived by his wife Ruth Myers married 1957 in Las Vegas Nevada. Memorial services are to be held at Janeva Kub a funeral home at a time to be announced.
Mrs Marian Preston former Cedar Rapids resident died Tuesday in Palos Heights Illinois. Surviving are husband and two daughters Nancy Mathis and Joanne Mars. Body to be brought to Turner chapel. Casket not to be opened Graveside service at Oak Hill cemetery Saturday at 1 PM conducted by Rev Edward V Douglass First Baptist.

Michael Whitehead, 12, son of Harry J. Whitehead Jr., 2423 Bever Ave SE, was hospitalized after a sled accident at Bever Park when his sled struck a tree. He was treated at St. Luke's, returning Thursday in fairly good condition with possible internal injuries.
Authorities searched for three youths who fled from the Three Free Boys Training School in Eldora on Wednesday. Identified by authorities were Robert James Pilkington 16 Des Moines Stanley I Bruns 17 from George and Joseph L Underwood 17 from Ottumwa.
Nelson Rockefeller's campaign chairman former Gov. Hugh Gregg offered a series of public debates between Rockefeller and Barry Goldwater. Gregg said images of the two men have been confused by conflicting stories and the debates would clear up the confusion.
Gov. Nelson Rockefeller said he has no plan to appear on television or radio to discuss his divorce and remarriage. He dismissed a Washington Post report that supporters urged a national broadcast and said the timing is wrong for such questions.

Two men who walked away from a prison work camp in the Yellow River forest area in Allamakee county were still missing at noon. Richard Fesquez, 23, Des Moines, and Thomas Swieter, 21, Mason City, were last seen during a midnigh bed check wearing blue prison uniforms.
