Stolen Rabbits Saddens Elderly Cedar Rapids Woman

Marilyn Gilbert reported two pet rabbits stolen from her 87-year-old mother Madge Ford’s rural Cedar Rapids home. A male and female breeding pair vanished from their cage while about 20 smaller rabbits remained, with a spent shotgun shell found nearby. Lin county Sheriff’s Department notified. suspects mentioned but not named.

West Union teen dies from gunshot wound

Fayette County Sheriff's Department reports 17 year old Larry Moore of Hawkeye died Thursday night from a personal safety related gunshot wound at the Gerald Oak land residence in West Union. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Rodney Moore.

Cedar Rapids Charges First Cable TV Theft

John Smith of 801 Third Ave SW has become the first person charged with theft of cable television services since Cedar Rapids enacted an ordinance in December. He faces a simple misdemeanor after authorities observed an illegal hookup from his home to a neighbor. The ordinance bars obtaining service without payment and forbids altering company equipment, with penalties up to 100 dollars or 30 days in jail.

Orange Bowl crowd warned as riot drags on in Miami

Police told white motorists to steer clear of the Overtown slum after a two day riot tied to a fatal video arcade shooting. The King Orange Jamboree parade drew up to a half million. 378 officers patrolled the route. five state cars and 36 city motorcycles led the floats. Authorities lifted weapon, liquor and gasoline restrictions with no new violence reported. Investigations focus on Officer Luis Alvarez and rookie partner amid civilian complaints against Alvarez.

Shelby County girl dies after sleding collision

A 12 year old Panama girl Teresa Mills died after her sled crossed a county road in Shelby County Iowa near Panama. Driver James Schwerey said he did not see the child. No charges were filed. Also killed on Highway 141 nearắt western Iowa Martin Pranschke 76 after veering left of center. Michael T. Smith of Soldier Iowa was in serious condition in an Omaha hospital. Passenger Mark Gosseler of Ute treated and released in Denison hospital. Ute lies in Crawford County about 120 miles northeast of Council Bluffs.
