Cold Start for Skaters Triumph in Cedar Rapids Open
Sub zero conditions greet skaters from Rock Island and Cedar Rapids at Manhattan rink in the Cedar Rapids Open. Diane Klak set a new intermediate girls 220 record at 22.7, overtaking the old Iowa Association mark. Ocie Trimble won the Liggett Trophy mile for Cedar Rapids, clocking 3:13.7. Becky Johnson swept the Cooper Trophy events 880 and 220, also winning the 440. The Hawkeye Open is planned for Jan 6-7 at Manhattan rink.
