Minneapolis actor Mark Cryer performs a 40 minute, five year project for fifth graders in Cedar Rapids classrooms. The solo production No Other People moves from slave ships to Civil War to the era of Jim Crow and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It uses rapid costume changes to portray black figures including George Washington Carver and African American veterans. Cryer stresses the ongoing struggle for liberty and equality and notes that Black History Month keeps him busy as he travels to schools. He argues understanding differs from stereotypes and urges students to form their own judgments.
