Melvin L. Kesselring Jr. 13, filed suit with his father in district court seeking 6500 against Harry J. Kiesling. He seeks 5500 actual and 1000 exemplary for injuries from an Oct. 3 assault, including a broken left collarbone that kept him from school six weeks.
Judge Floyd Philbrick ruled the Iowa industrial commissioner correctly found Ivory Gold Steele permanently and totally disabled after a head bump at the Iowa Manufacturing Company plant on April 16, 1948. The decision, appealed by the company and insurer, was sustained for sufficient evidence in the record.
Mrs Peter B Carighn 51 of 3004 Center Point road NE Cedar Rapids died at 2 am Tuesday. She was born in Monticello and belonged to the Presbyterian church there. Survived by husband Peter Carigha married November 12 1918 in Kenwood, a sister Mrs Irvin Leggett Anamosa and a brother Jesse W. Smith Cedar Rapids. Services 1:30 pm Thursday at Barta Hesser chapel conducted by Rev F A Munneke Daniels Park Presbyterian. Burial Cedar Memorial cemetery. Friends may call after 4 pm Wednesday.
Dewey Alexander Warner 51 lifelong Linn County resident died in a Cedar Rapids hospital Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. after a long illness. Born May 2 1898 in Lisbon, he is survived by wife Mary two step daughters Marcel Kroupa Cedar Rapids and Effie Mae Bowman Toddville and five grandchildren. services at Turner chapel 1 30 p.m. Thursday led by Rev Frank H Ward. visitation after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The case of the state against H Austin Rector for embezzling 169.96 dollars from A and T Chemical Company was submitted to a jury by Judge J E Heiserman on Tuesday at 12 05 p m.
The case brought by Cora E. Ondler against James W. Pirie and Lyle Jackson was dismissed with prejudice Monday by Judge G. K. Thompson on motion by the plaintiff. The will of Isaac Thomas Street, who died February 12, was admitted to probate in district court Monday, with Eldon Dennison of Center Point named executor without bond. The Schimberg Company Monday sued Illinois Fryer and Equipment Company Mercury Products and J. F. Janda for 102.02 dollars alleged due on account. Harvey Hartz Tuesday sued Donald D. Van Fleet for 223.75 dollars alleged due on an account for hybrid seed corn sold in 1945.

Richard Dougherty aged 18 of 1211 Fourth street SW pled guilty to petty larceny in justice court. He was fined $50 plus costs with the fine suspended by Justice W A Ball. Dougherty was arrested Sunday after police saw him siphoning gas from a car in the Kadlec Motor Company lot. A companion was committed to juvenile authorities because of age.
Three Cedar Rapids property owners signed a petition to rezone 1013 and 1023 A avenue from residential to commercial. City Council referred the case to the City Plan Commission for recommendation. Signers note adjacent parcels are already commercially zoned.
Cedar Rapids YMCA directors re-elected all officers for a second term at the 1950 board meeting held Tuesday noon. Re-elected were Joseph A. Lattner president John Turner II vice president Alvin G. Keyes secretary and John Hamilton II treasurer who begin second terms Wednesday.
Police investigated a break in at the Lincoln bowling alleys discovered about 6:45 a.m. Entry was gained through a rear window left unlocked. Pinball and popcorn machines were damaged. no loss estimate was available.
Prague reports Communist President Klement Gottwald declares Russia would employ the atomic bomb and other means to repel any aggressor. He notes the Soviet Union has used atomic energy only for peace so far but asserts it would be used in case of need for defense.

The Cedar Rapids B nai B rith youth group hosted eight church youth groups for a Sunday Brotherhood program at Temple Judah. Over 140 boys and girls attended from First Congregational Bethel A M E First Christian First Evangelical and Reformed St. Pauls Methodist Unitarian St Johns Episcopal and First Baptist. The Cedar Rapids city council retired $11,000 of bonded debt including a $7,000 airport issue, $3,000 sewage disposal bonds, and a $1,000 exhibition hall issue. An extra $516 in interest was paid, leaving total bonded indebtedness at $1,965,600, including a recently sold $600,000 water works bond.
