Townsend Eyes Substance Over Show For Iowa Child Project
Ted Townsend has invested over 3 million dollars and pledged 10 million more to back a proposed Iowa Child project aimed at combining a rain forest classroom with a science and life skills campus. He assembled 40 experts, including former Des Moines city manager Richard Wilkie, to design a unique facility, with Gov. Robert Ray calling Townsend persistent and honest. The plan envisions an educational environment blending ecology, citizenship, health, and aesthetics in Iowa, featuring a canopy forest and live animals to teach life sciences and ecological literacy.
