Sequestration Could Cost Iowa Thousands Of Jobs
A study by Iowa State University economist Dave Swenson estimates sequestration could cost Iowa 3,570 jobs in a year, with 2,471 tied to military spending and 965 to other federal outlays. The fall in direct federal spending could total 292 million dollars, rising to 429 million with multiplier effects. The impact would hit senior meal programs and other services across seven counties.

Iowa Budget Cuts Hit Schools and Programs Across State
The plan outlines how automatic budget cuts would trim funding for Iowa schools by 6.4 million and jeopardize about 90 education jobs while reducing services for 7,000 students. Other reductions include 5.8 million for disabled programs, 7.4 million in defense civilian pay, and smaller hits to law enforcement, environment, job services, vaccines, and senior meals.
