Hutchinson school of dance presented a Thursday recital at the Immaculate Conception auditorium with both tiny tots and advanced pupils performing. Don Russell hosted, and May dean Swatosh impressed in a toe ballet while a shadow dance by Margaret Cook and Helen Beem stood out under blue lighting.
A shell backdrop frames Antonia Cop and a group of dancers in a varied program. Performers include Helen Beem, Norma Atkinson, Phyllis Kohl, Phyllis Kotlinek, and Harold Waltermeyer with Perry Paullin in adagio pieces. Harmony by Evelyn Kazebier and Verona Chalupnik draws applause.

Gene Frazee was elected president of the Past Masters Masonic organization at the annual dinner and meeting in the Masonic Temple Thursday night. Ware Lake was named vice president, Ernest Failor secretary, and E. J. Miller treasurer. The event featured a high school musical program, sleight-of-hand by Maurice Flack, piano by Frank Flack, and a three-course banquet led by the Eastern Star with special guests P. O. Clark and others from Cedar Rapids and Marion area.
Mrs E B Castle entertained Colfax circle members on Thursday with quilting blocks and a business session. Assisting were Mesdames Ballard Booze Burrows Bailey Burns Benedict Brenneman and Biggs. A benefit card party was planned for April 9 in the F. hail building.
The Pastors Helpers of the Presbyterian church met Thursday for the monthly luncheon program and business session with Mrs. Ben Gill at 720 Central Avenue. Eleven members and two guests attended. Plans were made for the March meeting to be held with Mrs. Pratt.

Miss Dorothy Mae Ford of Marion won first in the humorous class at the preliminary state declamatory contest held Thursday in Lincoln school auditorium. Gordon Rahn and Otto Kruse, both from Lisbon, took firsts in the oratorical and dramatic divisions. Judges were Miss Roberta Sheets, Miss Geraldine Green, and Pierre Tracy. Winners advance to the sub district meet with Lisbon Mount Vernon Marion represented. Monmouth sent none. The girls sextet, with Miss Mary Ellen Granger as accompanist, opened the program.
Mrs M W Courtney entertained the Klatter Klub at dinner Tuesday. Covers were laid for eleven. Miss Bernice Toms, a Klub member who has been on the west coast for several months, was a special guest.
Mrs Willis Clark of Marshall town is visiting in the home of her sister Mrs Joe Brown.
Friday and Saturday mark the last days of Ed Sigfred s big reduction sale on overcoats and suits with other autumn and winter apparel advertised. Miss Elda Kemp files to succeed herself on the Marion school board as the deadline nears for March 8 election candidacy. Local notes mention Mrs Ellen Doolittles ninety eighth birthday party and other community visits and travels in Cedar Rapids Iowa City Ames and Spooner Wisconsin.
Mr and Mrs Fred Golden and daughter Bertha Mae conclude a three weeks motor journey to Mexico City visiting relatives on the return trip.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday in the Yocom chapel for Mrs. Dora Granger pioneer Linn County settler with Rev. E. T. Gough officiating. Reading circle members attended. pallbearers named. Burial at Oak Shade cemetery. Out-of-town relatives included the Krouses and Frank Krouse of Toddville and Bert Shafer of Cedar Rapids, plus numerous nieces and nephews from Center Point, Alburnett, Lafayette and Cedar Rapids.
Mr and Mrs James Breckinridge and their daughter will relocate from Duluth Minnesota to Davenport on April 1 words received Friday by Mrs Ethel Hart sister of Mrs Breckinridge. Mr Breckinridge a lumber company executive has been transferred to Davenport as district manager. Mrs Breckinridge was formerly Miss Irene Leaf of Marion.
Military funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Yocom chapel for Arthur Coonrod, a World War II veteran, with the American Legion post and the Rev. W. E. Fisher officiating. Burial follows at Oak Shade cemetery. Legion members to meet at 1:45 p.m. at Legion hall. Laura Bailey Auxiliary plans a 7:30 p.m. meeting at Mrs. D. H. Smith’s home to greet Luella Koether, a missionary to China on furlough. The Otto Hansen family will move from the J. J. Ives farm to the Downing farm north of Springville.
Mrs Guy Miller came back from Milwaukee after visiting her daughter Janet who teaches in the Milwaukee schools.
Mrs Ethel Hart heads to Chicago Friday night for the Midwest Hairdressers convention in session at the Sherman hotel. Mrs Lillian Zak Albaugh, Miss Ruby Beyers and Mrs Hazel Zimmer plan to leave Sunday night to attend the same convention.
Tommy Dochterman was brought home from the University hospital at Iowa City after several weeks of treatment.

MILWAUKEE UP The Wesley steel treating company urges its workers to save by making the first monthly payment on a U S baby bond for each worker. At the end of 10 years each employee will own bonds worth 3000 at maturity if all payments are met. The company recently raised all wages 9.38 per month and promised to double the amount for all employees who left their increases in the company treasury.
Franklin senior high students were chosen at a Thursday city contest to compete at the Maquoketa sub-district meet on March 19 and 20. Winners included James Hodgson first in piano, Ruth Morgan second runner, and James Ralston first in baritone with Dorothy Kemp first in alto though advised to study voice further.
Abraham Wolf Yager, a wholesale grain dealer and contractor, dies in Dywin Poland from paralysis caused by a ruptured blood vessel. Present were Mrs. Yager, four daughters and two sons including a son on leave from the Polish army. The elder Yager’s funeral is noted as one of the largest in Dywin. Jack Yager observes a mourning period.
Cedar Rapids resident Max Harger and Center Point resident Amarita Roberts obtained marriage licenses. The couple plans to wed in the near future.
