Obama veto blocks Keystone XL pipeline approval
President Obama vetoed a GOP backed bill that would have forced approval of the Keystone XL pipeline. Republicans promised override votes, but they are unlikely to succeed as the bill failed to reach a two thirds threshold in both chambers. The White House argued the measure infringes executive power by shifting review to Congress. TransCanada plans a 1000 mile tar sands oil route to Gulf coast refineries and has lobbied since 2008.
