The second phase of Iowa's smallpox vaccine program begins with about 250 health care and public health workers inoculated statewide. Sixty-one volunteers were vaccinated on Feb. 4, with up to 800 more to be vaccinated across 15 regional response centers.
Kyle Sloan, 18, pleaded guilty to three counts of arson and livestock abuse for fires at multiple Story County sites between October 16 and 23, including McCallsburg and Ames, with a sentencing set for March 24. His brother Kevin, 18, is to plead guilty March 15 to the same charges, and both faces further anticipated pleas in Boone and Hamilton counties.
