Norway angler Brecht wins 2006 Cedar Rapids Bassmasters title
Jason Brecht, 35, of Norway Iowa, set a season weight record with 152 pounds of bass across seven club tournaments to capture the Cedar Rapids Bassmasters fisherman of the year title. He surpassed the 145-pound mark set by Thad Takes in 2000, with top finishes including two wins, two seconds, and one third place. Brecht notes improved Upper Mississippi River bass stocks and highlights a preference for flipping and pitching plastics in 5 to 8 foot depths to reach larger bass. He credits structure and deeper water near shoreline edges for big catches and predicts another record will soon fall.
