HHS Seeks $290000 Reimbursement From Linn County Child Support

The U S Department of Health and Human Services seeks to reclaim over 290000 paid for Linn County Friend of the Court operations for a three year span ending September 1981. It says records were lacking to prove time spent on reimbursable programs under the contract with the state. The case, before the HHS Appeals Board, also involves Polk County and a dissolved office. Linn County argues no repayment is owed and cites a state-approved reimbursement method. The federal agency counters that time study figures may not apply to earlier years.

Linn County eyed chronic care unit to curb mental health costs

A feasibility study by the Adult Mental Health Coalition Long-Range Planning Task Force recommends Linn County operate a chronic care unit at the Care Facility. The proposal, costing about 44.38 per day per person, envisions stays from 30 days to two years and would provide an additional referral path for discharged patients.

Linn County to Boost Library Funding for Cedar Rapids Services

Steve Moshier says he will urge the Board of Supervisors next week to approve a $4,000 increase for Cedar Rapids library services. Earlier, Linn County reported it could only cover $24,708 for the second half of the fiscal year, $8,440 below the library’s full-service request. A compromise at the Feb 7 meeting set the county’s payment at $28,000 for the period, avoiding any service cuts and about $5,000 under the library’s initial request.
