A Cedar Rapids area notices travel plans as many residents return from winter trips. Several couples report trips to California, Florida, and the Southwest, while others plan spring voyages. Local sorority events and club meetings are noted, including Theta, Kappa Delta, and Alpha Gamma Delta gatherings. Additionally, Iowa Wesleyan College pledges are listed.
Mrs H H Monfort of 505 Thirtieth St SE returned Friday from a five week trip to Orlando Florida. She visited her brother in law and sister the Henry Duttweilers and their son and daughter in law the Terry Duttweilers, all former Cedar Rapids residents.
Two couples hosted a duck dinner for 50 guests in the Roosevelt hotel Lucas and Chambers rooms. Mr. and Mrs. James Y Canfield and Mr. and Mrs. W R Dock were hosts with tables set for eight around duck decoys, brass centerpieces, red tapers and red and white carnations. The note also lists club meetings: Cultus club at 1:30 Thursday at Mrs. A A Abbott’s home and Bach Music club at 2 Saturday in the YWCA auditorium with Beethoven life report and student performances.
The Who’s New club of the Civic Newcomer Association will meet Friday at 7:30 in the community room of City National Bank, 1100 Old Marion Road NE. John Baumann will present A Trip Through Southern Europe in colored slides. Reservations may be made with Mrs William Stoelzel.
Bon voyage events celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Max Daehler as they depart for a six month European tour. The Cedar Rapids couple will sail March 4 from New York, visiting Berne with Mrs. Daehler’s sister, and plan to return to Cedar Rapids in September. Family and friends host dinners and gatherings in their honor, including hosts Russell Hess, Lee Winterberg, and John Miller, with appearances by the Daehlers’ three sons.

Highlights include a trumpet solo by Roger Rinaldi with conductor Dallas Tjaden at Coe auditorium on Monday, a colonial ball at Coe fieldhouse, and a Wednesday lecture by Dr Joseph E McCabe at Coe chapel. Also features a Wednesday through Saturday production of Blood Wedding at University of Iowa theater, a Lenten luncheon at YWCA with speaker Mrs Judson Fiebiger, and sports including Coe vs St Olaf and Michigan State at Iowa. The Iowa State spring market hog show appears Friday and Saturday at Hawkeye Downs.
Coe college senior women are invited to the AAUW February general meeting at 8 in the public library auditorium. Theme is A Matter of History The World is Rome's and the Gods Gave It to Caesar. Readings include Ides of March Dry Salvages Lodging for the Night Four Lost Men.
Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Mader of 2516 Kathryn St. SW announce the engagement of their daughter Marilyn Ann to Herbert W. David, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. David of Los Angeles. Marilyn is a Concordia Teachers College graduate and instructor in Burbank. Herbert attended East Los Angeles Junior College and San Jose State College and is sports editor of the Daily Independent in Corona. The wedding is planned for August.
Mercy Hospital Women's auxiliary board to meet Tuesday to finalize plans for a spring hat show and card party on March 12 co chaired by Mrs. J F Berry and Mrs. Charles Burkart. Committee members include Mrs. Philip Shive Mrs. Don Barker Mrs. Emmett Murphy and Leonard Chadima.
Members of the Cedar Rapids Presbytery host a 4 o clock reception at First Presbyterian church chapel honoring Dr Joseph McCabe new president of Coe college and Mrs McCabe. Guests include President and Mrs McCabe Dr and Mrs James Hodgson Dr and Mrs Theodore Lilley and Presbytery Moderator and Mrs Fred Telecky. Mrs Donald Bye hosts a pink and blue shower for Mrs Robert Fletcher with 22 guests including Mrs Julius Mann and local friends.
The Ladies Literary club will meet Monday at 2 30 PM at Mrs Irving L Churchill 320 Nineteenth St SE Mrs R C Montgomery will give the program.
Town Toastmistresses meet Tuesday at 6 15 for dinner at the Sheraton Montrose. Adele Coon and K G Garton to speak. Guest judges include Doris Farnsworth Stewart Shank R L Neenan Eleanor Morden. Cedar Rapids American Business Women's Association join Waterloo chapter at 6 30. John K Williams of KCRG to speak. Smorgasbord dinner served.
Three couples will host a tea dance at Elmcrest Golf and Country Club at 4 PM. Hosts are Dr. and Mrs. R. E. Weland, Dr. and Mrs. L. G. Carrigg, and Dr. and Mrs. James J. Redmond. Variety Club orchestra provides music. yellow and white decor with jonquils and daisies.
