UI Hospitals Cuts Waste and Boosts Recycling Initiatives
UI Hospitals reduced pre consumer food waste in 2013 to 212 500 servings valued at 137 350 accounting for 7 percent of prepared food. The hospital shifted to compostable containers, halted Styrofoam, and expanded donation of prepared food where safe. Table to Table and local partners pick up surplus meals to aid Crisis Center and Salvation Army.
