Cedar Rapids officials seek 30 million dollars in five years from the state to support a riverfront and downtown development that could attract more than 400 million dollars in private and federal investments. Cedar Rapids Riverfront Master Plan Concepts

Plan outlines Bridges and scenic outlooks with May's Island crossings and a 60 acre urban fishery. A 7.5 mile commuter trail loop links neighborhoods to downtown and anticipates future light rail and intermodal facilities. A seven block riverwalk hosts markets, arts, concerts replacing parking and service entrances. Amphitheater supports up to 15000. Safety upgrades raise the levee three feet and add trail underpasses. A river heritage museum preserves railroad, river, industrial, philanthropic and immigrant labor heritage. The smokestack at the Sinclair meatpacking site is to be restored.

Court to fund new federal building and housing push

A $100 million plus federal courthouse is planned with anticipated private investments. The project includes a significant push to add 300 units of affordable, market-rate and upper-income housing in the area, signaling a broad redevelopment effort.
