DNR proposes higher fishing license fees in Iowa

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources seeks Legislature approval to raise resident fishing licenses from 10.50 plus a 3 habitat fee to 17 with no separate habitat charge. The 6.5 increase would fund hatcheries, lake development, and urban fishing access, with new short term licenses for locals and nonresidents. The proposal also considers trout stamps for all anglers who fish for trout, regardless of harvest, citing rising catch and release rates and ongoing angler surveys.
