Linn County budget trims taxes and road rock funding
Linn County supervisors hold tax growth to about 2.75 percent after earlier limits. County Engineer Steve Gannon loses 650000 in rock budget replacement funds, risking 130000 tons of rock for 850 miles of roads as rock use and road funds shift. He notes 340000 extra in lost road-use tax this year and cautions on future cuts.

Afghan leaders split over who killed aviation minister
Afghan foreign minister Abdullah disputed Karzai’s claim that insiders stabbed Aviation Minister Abdul Rahman. A cabinet minister close to Karzai said pilgrims angry over flight delays killed Rahman, calling the death not a premeditated plot. The clash spotlighted government rifts amid postwar reconciliation efforts. Also, Gen. Myers said US airstrikes defended American troops, not taking sides in Afghan factions.
