A call of the house was used to compel absentees to attend as debates continued. Proposals to defer action and other efforts dominated the session as supporters argued the measure would protect brewers.
The legislature rejected a 4 per cent alcohol content proposal while a 3.2 per cent option was killed 45 to 56. Democrats and Republicans clashed over beer rules, with several members voicing frustration over the lengthy session and urging action. A final vote on the bill could come Wednesday.
