Barn Fire Destroys Swine Farm Near Shueyville

Fire departments from Ely Fairfax Swisher and Solon fought a blaze that destroyed a barn farrowing house and nursery on the Larry Statler farm south of Shueyville. The fire started about 1 45 p m and Statler said a new furnace may have overheated or exploded. He evacuated 16 sows and 100 feeder pigs with some survivors sold or moved to other farms while a new facility is sought. No value estimate is available for the building.
