Gandhi review portrays Mohandas Gandhi in sweeping epic
New York Times critic Vincent Canby lauds Gandhi as an authentic, sincere biopic by Richard Attenborough. Ben Kingsley gives a transformative performance as Gandhi covering 1915 to independence, with strong supporting turns from Roshan Seth Alyque Padamsee Rohini Hattangady and Candice Bergen. The film’s grand, documentary tone blends with human warmth, though some British figure depictions verge on cartoons.
