Sgt Butin to Attend Mother’s Funeral in Iowa
M/Sgt. Carroll W. Butin, 35, who was mistakenly reported killed in a Labrador B-36 crash, will be flown from Carswell AFB to Iowa to attend his mother Mrs. Jesse Butin’s funeral at Kullduff Methodist Church. She died after suffering a stroke triggered by the initial false death report. The funeral is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Death of John W. Svoboda in Cedar Rapids
John Wesley Svoboda 68, of 1127 K Street SW Cedar Rapids a longtime Penick and Ford employee retired, died at a Cedar Rapids hospital after a brief illness. Born October 25 1884 on a farm near Amana he farmed near Walford and ran a general store there. Temperature 77 Patient Reviving
A man identified as John Brown, a Negro of no fixed address, was admitted in semiconscious condition with a temperature of 77 degrees. He was found frozen in an unheated shed, had no pulse and inaudible heartbeat until an ECG detected 40 to 50 beats per minute. IV feeding and blood plasma raised his temperature two degrees over three hours. he murmured his name, and officials described heavy bandaging to combat shock. Two years earlier a Chicago woman revived after a 64 degree temperature and later had both legs amputated.

Boy Who Slew Father Sentenced to Eldora
