Iowa case tests implicit bias in state hiring discrimination
A judge will decide whether as many as 6000 African American job applicants and employees can pursue damages in a class action against Iowa state government hiring practices. Plaintiffs argue managers subconsciously favor whites, affecting interviews, hiring and promotions since 2003. Experts say a ruling could influence similar suits and state personnel policy changes nationwide.
