Iowa Guard benefits to be paid mid March

Iowa National Guard members owed respite leave benefits for a Iraq tour ended July 2007 will receive checks March 15 to 19. The Army announced a nationwide timeline for 22 000 guardsmen, including about 800 in Iowa, to resolve the delay and satisfy congressional pressure.

Rubashkin appeal denied by Eighth Circuit court

A federal appellate court in St. Louis on Wednesday denied Sholom Rubashkin from Postville Iowa an appeal of his November conviction on 86 counts of bank fraud and related charges tied to a May 2008 immigration raid at Agriprocessors. He remains in Linn County Jail Cedar Rapids awaiting sentencing.
